Sustainable solutions to preventing online misogyny

Tackling the root causes of misogyny, addressing young men and boys’ needs and promoting positive male gender norms and narratives around being a man

The Misogyny Policy Project (MPP) supports the development of collaborative multi-sectoral policy solutions that prevent and reduce misogynistic behaviour, while positively engaging men and boys as valued partners, addressing their mental health and other needs, supporting positive masculinities and preventing violence against women and girls (VAWG). This initiative takes an aspirational and root causes approach rather than a deficit approach that seeks to support men and boys’ needs in order to reduce the harm to women and girls, and to protect men and boys themselves from harm. MPP works closely with the Labour government, as well as academics, charities and thought leaders.

The key goals of the Misogyny Policy Project are to:

  1. Convene a space to bring together different actors across sectors to organise joint actions, research and learning related to online misogyny and positive masculinities.

  2. Influence the development of cross-sectoral policy solutions to support upstream responses to prevent the growth in online misogyny.

  3. Develop the political will for action to address the related online and offline harms.

Key projects

Ministerial Briefing on online misogyny and healthy masculinities

This Ministerial briefing provides a detailed set of recommended policy actions to tackling online misogyny and promote positive masculinities based on a roundtable convened by MPP earlier this year. Held together with Jess Asato MP, Fabian Women and Male Allies UK, this event brought together a range of sectors - EVAW, men and boys, online harm, mental health, teachers, trade unions, think tanks and donors - to discuss collaborative and multi-sectoral policy solutions. It was preceded by 17 different consultative meetings MPP held with stakeholders working on these issues.
